Noah denkt™ rates the 2016 GOP hopefuls
Evaluation of the presidential candidates for 2016 nomination of the Republican Party, first drafted on Aug. 7,
published on Aug. 8. 2015
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The “Voters First Forum” in New Hampshire and the Aug 6 debates on Fox News gave the public a first chance
to see the candidates for the presidential nomination of the Republican Party in face-off action. And since the
field of hopefuls is unusually large
this time around, Noah denkt™ feels encouraged to offer its own rating and
ranking of the various candidates in the GOP line up. Perhaps this can help others to structure their own,
personal view on the eligibility of the GOP contenders.

Method

We have rated the hopefuls according to 5 criteria:

  • Quality of the candidates’ analysis on domestic issues
  • Quality of the candidates’ analysis in foreign relations
  • Personal charisma
  • Originality of the candidate’s marketing pitch
  • Likely ability of the candidate to perform well in the real world Presidential, domestic and international
    politics

The latter criteria is based on our assessment of the contender’s ability to lead and manage a large and
unwieldy government bureaucracy, to handle volatile and unpredictable news cycles, and to ably serve the US
interests in the international arena by leading in an educated, efficient and elegant manner.

As you will find below we have excluded some candidates from our rating due to them being too dull and
uninspiring for our taste. That list of dropped candidates includes : Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, George Pataki,
Jim Gilmore (all four of them lacking charisma), Mike Huckabee (too old), Ben Carson (too inexperienced in
politics), Bobby Jindal, Ted Cruz and Scott Walker. Bobby Jindal and Scott Walker were close calls for us, since
both of them would probably make good Vice Presidential candidates. But they simply didn’t make our cut in
terms of originality and shine. The same is true for Ted Cruz who apparently registers decently in the polls. But
his stereotypical rhetoric straight form the book of hawks bored us more than Bobby Jindal’s diversity pitch and
Scott Walker’s fresh faced resilience and anti-abortion radicalism.

Additional Remarks

Donald Trump:  We like his pitch for self-made leadership. There is some truth in his general criticism of the
political class. But his macho approach would fail miserably in the international arena.

Marco Rubio: His soft-spoken approach is like a breath of fresh air. But still strikes us as being too much of a
light weight. No doubt, he would make a good VP running mate. And that is probably what he has ultimately in
mind for himself.

Rand Paul: It’s important to have someone in the GOP Primary race who defends the Bill of Rights. The
originality of sales pitch clearly stands out. His hands-off/isolationist approach in international matters,
however, is not doable in the real world.

Lindsey Graham: It is said to see him having to subject himself to the circus that comes with running for the
Presidency. After all, he is way too cerebral for that. There is no doubt that he is intellectually the most
qualified of all the candidates in the race. Unfortunately, it is quite unlikely that voters will see it that way,
since he is not entertaining enough.

John Kasich: He would make a great President. He has balanced views, great interpersonal skills and knows
how to lead a bureaucracy. He is on par with Lindsey Graham.

Carly Fiorina: She offers a fantastic originality in the GOP field. Noah denkt™ had a chance to witness one of
her CEO speeches while she was still at Hewlett Packard. She didn’t impress us too much at the time. Her
performance in the debates, however, has been awesome. She should definitely get a VP job.

Jeb Bush: He is perfectly groomed for the top job. His aristocratic upbringing clearly give him the elegance
and the style for the job. And his analysis is well measured. He may be a little too dull though.

Chris Christie: We cannot see him perform well in the international arena.

Conclusion

For us at Noah denkt™, the nomination should be in between Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Lindsey Graham and
Carly Fiorina. But you never know where the swing of voter sentiment will take you.
